Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get my hands on this Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M for a while now. I finally decided to pull the trigger, but man, finding the right one at the right price was a whole thing. I’m not made of money, you know? So, I started digging around, trying to figure out what a fair price even is for one of these bad boys.
First, I went down the rabbit hole of online listings. There’s a bunch of different versions of this watch, and the prices are all over the place. I saw some going for around $4,424. That seemed alright, but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t getting ripped off.
Then I started checking out some price guides. One of them said a model, I think it was the 232.30.42.21.01.001, was worth around $3,278 on the market. But then, retail for a different model, the 215.92.46.22.03.001, was like $12,300, but it was only trading for around $7,000 used. It’s a bit confusing.
So, I kept digging. I saw a lot of people saying that a new one, especially the 215.30.44.21.01.001 model, would run between $5,000 and $8,000. That’s a pretty big range! I figured I could probably get a used one in decent shape for less than that. The stainless steel ones were looking like $5,300 to $5,600, and the titanium ones started around $6,000. These models use the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8900, so that also is a factor that influences the price.
And, guess what? The weight is also different. I saw that the Dark Grey GMT’s is unexpectedly wrist-friendly, weighing about 107 grams, lighter than the Deep Black version at 138 grams. Besides, 01.001 is encased in 39.5mm of stainless steel surrounding a black dial on a stainless steel bracelet.
My Strategy
- Compare, compare, compare: I spent hours looking at different listings, making notes on the prices, the condition of the watches, and the sellers’ reputations.
- Set a budget: I decided I wasn’t going to spend more than $6,000, and I was aiming for something closer to $5,000.
- Be patient: I knew I might have to wait a while to find the perfect watch at the right price.
After a few weeks of searching and a few near misses, I finally found it! A beautiful stainless steel Planet Ocean 600M, in great condition, for just under $5,000. I jumped on it, and I’m so glad I did. It’s even better in person than in the pictures.
So, yeah, it took some work, but I finally got my Omega. It’s a great feeling to have this thing on my wrist. If you’re thinking about getting one, just do your research, be patient, and don’t be afraid to haggle a little. You might be surprised at what you can find!
