Okay, here’s my experience about replicating the OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary watch.
So, I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary watch for a while. It’s a real beauty, but way out of my budget. That’s when I thought, why not try to replicate it? I mean, I’ve always been pretty handy, and I love a good challenge. And to be frank with you, I had a tough time in the past year, and I want to make something that could make me happy and remember that although life is hard, we should always find joy and hope in our lives. The Snoopy logo means a lot to me, and I’m thrilled to have it on my hand-made watch.
First things first, I needed to gather all the materials. I managed to find a decent watch movement online. For the case, I decided to use stainless steel. It’s not the same as the original, but it’s close enough. I started working on the dial by printing out the “Silver Snoopy Award” design. It took a few tries to get the size and color just right. I was using a regular printer for this step, and I have to say the result is not very promising. The logo looks a little bit pixelated, and the color is not as vivid as the original one. The fonts are also not 100% the same, and I have to admit that it’s not easy to find the perfect fonts that match the original design. Even though I tried my best to use the closest font, you can still tell the difference if you look closely. To be frank, I was so disappointed when I saw the dial, and I’m thinking if I should just give up the whole project, after all, it’s just a project for fun, right? But I decided to keep going and try to make the best of it.
After I managed to “create” the dial, I started assembling the watch. Putting the movement in the case was a bit tricky, but I managed to do it without breaking anything, which was a relief. Then came the hardest part – attaching the hands. One wrong move, and I could scratch the dial or damage the movement. Luckily, I had a steady hand that day. I remember that I was holding my breath the whole time, and when I finally attached all three hands successfully, I let out a big sigh of relief. It was like I just finished a marathon!
Once everything was assembled, I started working on the strap. I chose a nice, blue nylon fabric strap that I think looks pretty cool. The original watch has a really cool animation on the back, but I couldn’t replicate that. Instead, I just put a simple engraving of the Snoopy on the back. It’s not the same, but I still love it.
The Final Product
After many hours of work, my “Silver Snoopy” watch was finally finished. It’s not a perfect replica, of course, but I’m still pretty proud of it. It’s a unique piece that I made with my own hands. And honestly, it’s not about making it perfect, it’s about the journey and the fun I had during the process.
- Looks: It looks pretty similar to the original from a distance. The colors are a bit off, and the logo isn’t as sharp, but it’s recognizable. I’d say it captures about 70-80% of the original watch’s charm. But when you look closely, you can definitely tell that it’s not the real deal. The dial is a bit rough, and the case is not as refined as the original.
- Movement: The movement is not as smooth as the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, but it keeps time well. I’ve been wearing it for a few days, and it hasn’t lost or gained any significant time. It’s a cheap quartz movement, so I didn’t expect much, but it’s surprisingly accurate.
- Strap: The blue nylon strap is comfortable and looks great with the watch. I think I actually prefer it to the original strap. It’s more casual and fits my style better.
- Overall: I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s a fun project that kept me busy for a while. And now I have a unique watch that I can wear with pride. Would I wear it to a fancy event? Probably not. But for everyday wear, it’s perfect! I mean, it’s not something I would show off to watch collectors, but my friends think it’s pretty cool, and that’s enough for me.
This project was a great learning experience. I learned a lot about watches and how they’re made. I also learned that I’m more patient than I thought. And most importantly, I learned that it’s okay to not be perfect. Sometimes, the imperfections are what make something special. It’s not just about the final product, but also about the process and the effort you put into it. I had a lot of fun making this watch, and I think that’s what matters most.
