Today, I wanna talk about something cool I did – messing around with a fancy watch, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3. You know, those super expensive ones you see in the official stores? Yeah, that one.
Getting Started
First off, I didn’t just walk into a store and start taking it apart. No way! I started by watching a bunch of videos online. Just to get a feel for how this thing is put together. It’s like a tiny, intricate puzzle, you know?
Digging In
Then, I got my hands on a replica. Not the real deal, obviously, ’cause I’m not made of money. But a good enough replica to practice on. I laid out all my tools – tiny screwdrivers, tweezers, the whole shebang. Looked like a mini operating room on my desk. I started by carefully taking off the back cover. Man, those screws are tiny!
The Tricky Part
The tricky part was dealing with the gyrotourbillon itself. That’s the fancy spinning cage thing. In the videos, it looked so smooth, but in real life, it’s a whole different story. One wrong move and you could mess up the whole thing. I had to take a few deep breaths, I won’t lie. I managed to get it out without breaking anything, thankfully.

- Second Attempt: Almost there, but dropped a screw. Never found it.
- Third Attempt: Success! Got it apart and back together. Felt like a watchmaking god.
Putting It Back Together
Putting it back together was even harder. It’s like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube. But after a few tries, and a lot of patience, I managed to get it all back in place. I even cleaned it up a bit while I was at it. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, I was pretty proud of myself.
The Result
When I finally finished, the watch was ticking. Not sure how accurate it was, but it was working! I felt a huge sense of accomplishment. Like I’d climbed Mount Everest or something. It’s not something I’d do every day, but it was a fun little project.
