Classic Style on a Budget? Consider a Remake PRADA Logo Tote

Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing those Prada tote bags for like, forever. But let’s be real, my wallet just can’t handle that kind of damage. So I thought, why not try to make one myself? I mean, how hard could it be, right?

I started by digging around the internet, looking for some inspiration. I saw some stuff about a straw bag from HM, which apparently kinda looks like a Prada design but way cheaper. Also, Prada’s got some new bags inspired by their older stuff which is pretty cool I guess. And then I found this video where someone made a tote bag that looked a bit like a Prada one. That got me thinking, maybe I could do something similar.

Gathering Supplies

First things first, I needed to gather some materials.

  • Fabric: I chose a durable canvas fabric in a neutral color. Figured it would be versatile and kinda give off that classic vibe.
  • Lining: Went with a simple cotton fabric for the inside.
  • Handles: Found some leather straps online that seemed sturdy enough.
  • Tools: My trusty sewing machine, some needles, thread, scissors, a ruler, and some tailor’s chalk.

Getting to Work

I started by sketching out a basic tote bag design. Nothing too fancy, just a simple rectangular shape. Then, I measured and cut out the fabric pieces according to my sketch. Two big rectangles for the front and back, and a long strip for the bottom and sides.

Next up, sewing! I stitched the side and bottom pieces to the front and back panels, creating the main body of the bag. Then, I did the same for the lining. With the main bag and lining done, I turned the main bag right side out and the lining inside out. Then I carefully put the lining inside the main bag and stitched them together around the top edge, leaving a small opening to turn everything right side out.

Once that was done, I top-stitched around the top edge to make it look neat and closed the opening by hand. Finally, I attached the leather handles. I marked where I wanted them to go, punched some holes, and hand-stitched them securely to the bag.

The Final Touches

To give it a bit of a Prada-ish touch, I decided to add a little logo. I found a small metal rectangle thingy that could work as the backdrop, and I painted the word “PRADA” on a small piece of fabric using fabric paint. Then I glued this fabric piece on the metal rectangle and attached it to the front of the bag. Not perfect, but hey, it’s something.

The Result

And there you have it! My very own “Prada” inspired tote bag. It’s not exactly like the real thing, but it’s got that kind of vibe, you know? Plus, it was way cheaper and actually pretty fun to make. It is not perfect, and maybe a little rough around the edges, but it’s mine, and I made it. It is pretty sturdy, and I have been using it to carry my stuff around. I’m actually pretty proud of how it turned out. Maybe I’ll try making another one sometime, perhaps with a different design. Who knows?

It felt good to make something with my own two hands. It’s not perfect, but I’m happy. If I can do it, so can you!
