Okay, so I saw this PRADA Symbole Tote Bag at their official flagship store the other day, and let me tell you, it was love at first sight. But the price tag? Not so much. So, I thought, “Why not try to remake it myself?” I mean, how hard could it be, right?

First, I gotta find a nice canvas fabric. I went to the local fabric store and found this great material. They had a bunch of options, but I’m going for this Baltic Blue and Chalk White color combo. It looks really close to the original one I saw.

I spent the whole afternoon just cutting the fabric. I’m no expert at sewing, so I carefully measured and cut each piece. I used some old newspapers to make a pattern. It was kinda messy, but I think I got it right. This took forever, man!

  • Cut two large rectangles for the front and back panels.
  • Cut two smaller rectangles for the side panels.
  • Cut two long strips for the handles.

Next up, the tricky part – the logo. I found a picture of the PRADA logo online. I decided to print it and I will trace it onto the fabric. I’m thinking of using fabric markers to make it permanent.

After tracing the logo, I started to embroider it. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine. It has this handmade charm to it. I think this is my favorite part of the project.

Now, time to sew everything together! I dusted off my mom’s old sewing machine – hope this thing still works. I started with the side panels, attaching them to the front and back. It was a bit wobbly at first, but I got the hang of it. Then came the handles, which was a little tricky, but I managed to sew them on securely.

And finally, after hours of work, my PRADA-inspired tote bag was finished! It’s not exactly like the one from the official store, but it’s pretty darn close! I am so proud of how it turned out. I even took it out for a spin to the grocery store, and I got a few compliments!

Final thoughts?

This project was definitely a challenge, especially for someone who is not into sewing like me. But it was also super rewarding. I love that I was able to create something with my own hands. And it saved me a ton of money! Plus, I now have a unique, one-of-a-kind bag that I can show off. I made it myself, baby!
