The Process
So, after all that research, I decided to go for it, start my own recreation.
- Sourcing the Re-Nylon: This was the trickiest part. I wanted to use the real deal, the same Re-Nylon that Prada uses. That stuff is made from recycled materials and is supposed to be super durable. I looked around at some fabric stores and online shops to source suitable materials.
- Finding a Pattern: Since I’m not a pro at sewing, I needed a pattern. I searched online for a tote bag pattern that looked similar to the Re-Edition 1995. I found one that was pretty close, with a few tweaks needed here and there.
- Getting the Hardware: The Prada bag has this chain strap and some metal hardware. I found some similar-looking chains and buckles at a local craft store. They’re not the real Prada ones, but they give the same vibe.
- Sewing it Together: This was the fun part! I’m not gonna lie, it took some time and a few messed-up seams, but I finally got it all sewn together. It wasn’t perfect, but it definitely looked like a tote bag.
