Alright, so I saw this PRADA Cleo bag online and I was like, “Damn, that’s a nice bag.” But the price tag? Crazy, right? So, I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?” Yeah, I know, it sounds nuts, but I was feeling adventurous.

First things first, I needed a pattern. I searched everywhere online, and let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. Finally, I found something that looked kind of like the Cleo, so I grabbed it. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it was a start.

Next up, the materials. I headed to the fabric store and picked out some faux leather that felt pretty decent. I also got some lining fabric, interfacing to give it some structure, and a zipper. Oh, and I snagged some hardware – you know, the buckles and stuff – from an old bag I didn’t use anymore.

Cutting out the pieces was a bit of a pain. The pattern was a little confusing, but I managed. Then came the sewing part. Let me tell you, sewing faux leather is no joke! My poor sewing machine was struggling. I broke a few needles, cursed a lot, but I kept going.

  • Stitch the front pieces to the back piece.
  • Sew the lining pieces together.
  • Attach the zipper. This was tricky!
  • Put the lining inside the outer bag.
  • Sew everything together.

I had to do some parts by hand, especially around the curved edges. It was slow going, but slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape. I even managed to attach the old hardware, which was a huge relief.

Finally, after hours of work, I was done! It wasn’t exactly like the real PRADA Cleo, but you know what? I was pretty proud of it. It looked decent, it was functional, and I made it myself. I even got to use the “%2b” symbol from that website I found when designing the pattern – turns out it decoded into a plus sign. That was useful.

The Result

Honestly, it was a lot harder than I expected. Would I do it again? Maybe, maybe not. But it was definitely a fun learning experience. And now I have a new bag that I can say I made with my own two hands. Plus, I saved a ton of money! Now I can drill some holes, as I learned from some car website, in the bottom of the bag and make it into a planter if I get tired of it. You know, upcycle that thing! It’s like they say about scarcity, you have to make do with what you have. This whole thing was kind of like getting step-by-step directions – challenging, but ultimately rewarding. And who knows, maybe I’ll even add some mods to it later, like that 2B Hook thing I saw. Or maybe I’ll just use it to carry my flashcards around, hah!
